The Manawatu Golf Club promotes golf for men of all abilities to play at the club.

Members may choose to play casual golf with other like-minded players, or join in on the club competition days that while remaining social and fun, have a competitive aspect to them.

Have a look at the following information and feel free to contact any one of our men's committee members listed below if you have any further questions - they would welcome your call.

New to Golf?

We understand that learning a new sport is challenging and sometimes a daunting prospect. We do everything we can to provide a fun and enjoyable environment for you to learn.

We recommend new golfers take part in one of our beginner clinics held throughout the year, or join our annual "Discover Golf Clinic" that is held in October/November each year.  These clinics are specifically aimed at players who are new to the sport and a great way to learn in a friendly and fun environment.  Last year we have had approximately 25 men participate in this clinic and many have gone on to join as members.

Individual lessons are also available if you prefer one on one instruction, or as follow up instruction after one of our clinics.

Competitive Play

For members who are wanting to play competitively there are a number of opportunities available.  The great thing about the handicap system means members can compete against one another on a level playing field.

Competitions are held all year round with a numbers of trophies played for during the ‘season’ of February to November.  Some of these trophies are played for across many weeks and others are one day events.  Most of the different golf formats are used throughout the year such as stableford, par, stroke and match play.  The Club provides each member with a programme book that lists all these competitions and their dates.

The Club fields teams in the district pennants series and currently has men’s teams in the A, Palmanui, Handicap and Presidents Grades.

Several Open events are held at the club each year offering men the chance to compete on their home course against players from other clubs.  The Lawnmaster Classic is held around March each year, the Manawatu Open in October and the B Grade Championship in November.

Playing Rights

Your membership category will determine which days you are entitled to play golf.   Have a look at our membership page for more information.

9 holers
9 hole players can choose between one of two Club days - Wednesday or Saturday mornings.   Each group is mixed (men and women) and you can either play for fun, or choose to compete for a range of trophies throughout the year.

18 holers
18 hole players can choose between one of two Club days - Wednesdays or Saturdays.   Each group is men only and you can either play for fun, or choose to compete for a range of trophies throughout the year.

Social Aspect

After a round most of the men go into the clubhouse (not compulsory) for a drink and a bite to eat to relive ‘what could have been!’ from the round they have just played.  This is where friendships are built and the atmosphere is fantastic.  The Pro Shop staff come into the clubhouse at the end of the days play to announce the results.

The men also go on at least one bus trip to another course each year. The cost to do this is usually around $50.00 which includes the bus, green fee, meal and haggle at the other course. These are usually great days out and the Club has previously been on these trips to Paraparaumu, Wellington and Napier.

The club also runs a number of social events throughout the year, for members as well as the wider community.  These are advertised through our members page and the Hokowhitu Cafe and Bar.

"Go out and have fun.  Golf is a game for everyone, not just for the talented few."
